1. “셰브르포일 (Chevrefoil)”
“셰브르포일”은 옛날부터 서양의 이야기꾼들에 의해 구전 되어 온 이야기로 트리스탄과 이졸데 사이의 짧은 만남에 관한 이야기다. 트리스탄과 이졸데의 연리지 같은 사랑 이야기를 기타와 장구 반주에 맞춰 노래와 말로 전달한다.
From the old days, both in western and Asian cultures, many performers have riveted audience in diverse ways of storytelling. We also love to tell different narratives which can vary from medieval age to the contemporary audience.
2. “왕과 사슴 (The King and the Deer)”
“왕과 사슴”은 티베트의 전설 <수끼니마>를 극 1인극에 맞게 각색한 작품이다. 자연과 인간, 그리고 모든 생명에 대한 연민을 갖는 마음에 대해 다루고 있는 작품이다.
The King and the Deer is actually from an old Tibetan fable. The performer wears many hats and satirizes the world just like an classical-style Korean traditional performer.
3. “일리아드 (Iliad)”
“불러주는 이야기” 중 “일리아드”는, 서양 “일리아드”에 등장 하는 헥토르의 죽음과 장례절차를 한국의 진도 씻김굿이라는 전통연희 양식을 빌려서 이야기 한다. 헥토르의 넋을 정성들여 깨끗이 씻어 올려 보내주고, 산 사람의 복과 안녕을 기원한다.
We resurrect the funeral of Hector with the form of Korean traditional island funeral, ‘Jin-do Sit-Gim-Gut’ (Island funeral washing). In the process, we comfort the spirit, attempt to send the dead to heaven, and pray for permanent rest as their life is honored. For the dead to get to heaven, the ceremony involves washing the soul and spirit. It’s very crucial in Sit-Gim-Gut that there is the separation and contrast between life and death.
