‘캡틴 마블’급 한글 고전 소설 <박씨부인전>

<박씨부인전>은 전형적인 히어로 영화의 문법을 따르고 있다. 주인공은 비범한 능력을 가지고 있지만, 외부의 제약 때문에 그 능력을 온전히 드러내지 못하고 살아간다. 하지만 그 능력은 숨겨지지 않고 능력이 공개되면서 주인공은 고난을 극복하고 히어로로 탈바꿈한다. 하지만 <박씨부인전>과 히어로 영화와의 차이점은, 박씨부인이 비범한 능력을 발휘하고 악당을 물리치지만 병자호란에서, 조선은 패배했고 조선의 왕은 삼전도의 굴욕을 당했다는 지점이다. 바로 이 지점이 작품이 가진, 기존 히어로 영화와는 다른 비극성이다.

<박씨부인전>의 남성 캐릭터는 모두 실존 인물이고, 여성 캐릭터는 모두 가상의 인물들이다. 실존 인물들을 통해 굴욕적인 역사적 사실을 제공하면서 동시에 가상의 여성 인물들을 통해서 판타지를 보여주고 그럼에도 불구하고 살아나갈 수 있는 희망을 제시한다. 조선시대 궁궐의 정치는 모두 남성들이 도맡았고 결국 실패했지만, 그 희망의 불씨를 판타지적인 여성 캐릭터를 통해 구현하는 지점에서 지금 우리에게 시사하는 바가 있다. 현 시점에서 이번 낭독공연 <박씨부인전>은 젠더 갈등을 부추기는 것이 아니라 각자의 능력 안에서 서로 공생할 때 세상이 조금 더 나은 방향으로 흘러갈 수 있음을 제시한다. 동시대에서 필요로 하는 리더의 모습을 박씨부인을 통해서 찾아볼 수 있는 것이다. <박씨부인전>은 남녀를 떠나 우리 모두는 각자 자신만의 능력을 가지고 있고, 서로의 능력을 온전히 인정하고 존중할 때 세상은 조금 더 나아질 수 있다는 것을 우리에게 말하고 있다.

“The Life of Mrs. Park” is similar in composition to a typical hero movie. Mrs. Park has extraordinary abilities, but lives without revealing them entirely due to external constraints. However, the ability is revealed, Mrs. Park gets over the hardships and turns into a hero. However, the difference between “The Life of Mrs.Park” and the previous hero film is that Mrs. Park used her extraordinary abilities to drives away the villain, but Joseon was defeated in the war. This point is the tragedy of “The Life of Mrs.Park”.The male characters in “The Life of Mrs. Park” are all real characters, and all female characters are fictional characters. Showing humiliating historical facts through real-life figures, the novel shows fantasy through fictional female characters. And nonetheless, the novel offers hope to survive. In the Joseon era, politics was all handled by men and eventually failed, but the hope was embodied through fantasy female characters. We can see the leader required for contemporary time through Mrs. Park. Mrs. Park said that the world will be better if we all have our own ability, fully acknowledge and respect each other’s ability, regardless of men and women.
