조아라는 ‘몸소리말조아라’의 대표이자 연출가, 안무가, 작가, 소리꾼, 배우, 퍼포머, 무용수, 기획자로 국내외에서 활동하고 있다.
초등학교 때 판소리를 배우기 시작해 국립국악고등학교와 한국예술종합학교 예술사에서 판소리를 전공했다. 졸업 후 동대학의 연극원 연기과 전문사에서 ‘연기’ MFA를 수료하였다. 현재 동대학의 무용원 창작과 전문사에 재학 중이다.
2011년부터 ‘몸소리말조아라’라는 공연예술 단체를 만들어 활동하고 있다.
‘몸소리말조아라’는 삶과 예술의 선순환 구조 속에서 과정 중심적인 작품을 만들어 관객들과 공명하고, 지금 여기, 몸을 감각하고 소리와 움직임을 연결하는 작업에 집중하고 있다. <판소리움직임 탐구> 시리즈, <조각난 뼈를 가진 여자와 어느 물리치료사>, <날, 깨워줘>, <사철가 프로젝트>, <목욕합시다>, <어쩔 수가 없어>, <수궁가가 조아라> 등을 발표하였고, 다원, 전통, 연극, 무용, 문학을 넘나들며 다양한 분야의 예술활동을 펼쳐나가고 있다.
Jo Ahra is a director, choreographer, writer, Pansori singer, actor, performer, dancer and producer performing globally.
It has all begun early in her childhood from singing Pansori, which led her to train further in Gukak national High School and then in Korean National University of Arts.
She continued to expand her artistic training in acting and achieved her MFA at the School of Drama at K-Arts University. She is currently studying choreography at the Korean National University of Arts, School of Dance.
‘BodySoundSpeakJoAhRa’ explores style and narrative of performing arts. It approaches the audience through the original variation of movement, sound and speech.
Jo Ahra, the representative of ‘BodySoundSpeakJoAhRa’, is working as a director, choreographer, singer, actor, writer, performer, and dancer.
‘BodySoundSpeakJoAhRa’ is making process-oriented works in the virtuous cycle structure of life and art, and resonates with the audience, and now, it focuses on the work of connecting the body and sound and movement.
‘BodySoundSpeakJoAhRa’ has published <Pansori Movement Research> series, <A woman with a fragmented bone and a physical therapist>, <Wake me up>, <Sacheolga Project>, <Let’s take a bath>, <Inevitable>, <Sugunggaga JoAhRa>, and has been carrying out artistic activities in various fields, crossing multi-arts, traditional arts, theater, dance and literature.
